Canadian Music -or- Your Love is Better than Ice Cream

As a Canadian, it's always interesting when someone sends a dream that is dreamt in a different country and yet says something about Canadian culture. The dream below is from a 19 year young woman from Turkey, who evidently has some knowledge of Canadian music. Here is the dream;

Lena 19, Turkey

My boyfriend just recently broke up with me, last night i dreamt we went to a restaurant together, once we got in we went our seperate ways, he went into the kitchen to get clean plates but there were none. I went looking for a seat, next thing i know he is sitting at a table by himself looking at the menue, then as I'm walking by and someone pointed out that i could sit in the next room. I went into another room. I looked around, but there wasn't anywhere for me to sit. I walk back into the other room sit down at an empty table i look up and he is infront of me sitting with me, then a song starts playing loud and as clear as day while we are looking at each other, its a Newfoundland song i somehow knew but I've never heard it before. I look down and there are flowers on the table and we are looking at each other and then a lady walks by and brings two dishes of ice cream. What does it mean?

Mr Hagen's Reply: Your Love is Better than Ice Cream

Sarah McLachlan who was adopted in Halifax Nova Scotia, (not quite Newfoundland, but very close) released a song called "Ice Cream" (watch music video), which also appears at the end of your dream, where you and your boyfriend each get a dish. The lyrics of the song tell a poetic story of a couple's history of love, of conflicts, of fighting, of crying, of consoling. Poetically speaking, a couple's deep love is better than chocolate or ice cream. What a simple message and heartfelt song about the poetry of relationships and love.

Perhaps on a final few notes, Sarah McLachlan's "One Dream", was the theme song of the Winter Olympics 2010. Here are the lyrics to "Ice Cream";

"Your love
Is better than ice cream.
Better than anything else that I've tried
And your love
Is better than ice cream
Everyone here knows how to cry

And it's a long way down
It's a long way down
It's a long way
Down to the place where we started from.

Your love
Is better than chocolate
Better than anything else that I've tried
And oh love is better than chocolate.
Everyone here knows how to fight

And it's a long way down
It's a long way down
It's a long way
Down to the place where we started from."
